Doing things: an update

A few weeks ago I blogged about my desire to try new things.

The Update

The Pom Poms on a string.
I purchased some beautiful wool and made 2 red Pom Poms. I joined the two Pom Poms with a cream coloured finger knitted string. The reside happily around my neck on a jacket or coupled with my new red cardigan.

Finger knitting is extremely easy. Make a slip knot over your finger, then place the loop on your left index finger and pull tight-ish. Make a second loop slightly closer to the tip of your finger, and then pull the first loop over the second loop and that is the stitch. Repeat until you have the length you want. To finish cut the string from your ball of wool and pull through.

Lounge-room picnics

Indoor lounge-room picnics in the colder weather (in front of the heater, or a fire in my daydreams) is such a romantic thing to do.

Fresh bread, cold meats, olives, oven baked Roma cherry tomatoes, smooth mozzarella and anchovies make a delicious antipasti plate.

Serve with organic fresh orange juice and fresh strawberries.

To make the Roma cherry tomatoes slice a punnet of fresh Roma cherry tomatoes in half lengthways. On a flat baking tray sprinkle a thin layer of rock salt (or table salt if you don't have rock salt) so that the tray is just covered. Carefully place the halved Roma cherry tomatoes (with the sliced part facing up). The idea is that the salt doesn't flavour the dish but it draws the moisture away to aid the baking process. Place the tray in a warm oven for 1 - 1 1/2 hours on 150 degrees celsius, checking regularly after the first hour to adjust cooking time.

Sundays in the city

I love spending my Sundays in the city. Nothing beats a delicious Sunday brunch with good coffee and fresh OJ, followed by a decent meander around the city and settling in for a lazy afternoon at Magnation or a cozy cafe, curled up next to my wonderful boyfriend, with a lady magazine or a good book.

My first spring in years

I've been living away from Melbourne for almost a decade, and being back is just wonderful. It is my first spring in a long time, and I must say despite the build up it hasn't dissapointed.

The winter was quite cold and seemed to linger (although I have always loved winter). 1 September was not the usually fine spring day, but was wet, windy and freezing! But since then we have had beautifully warm spring days, well not so much warm-warm, but warm if you stand in the sunshine and there's no wind.

We have also had beautiful spring rain and a couple of storms. Ahhh I missed the seasons!

The countdown is on

I have finally reached my tenth last day working at my current role and for some reason (actually I know the reasons) my notice period has been dragging on.

Only ten days to go...
